Hugh J Campbell (Lt.)
I have a photo of my father there. His platoon was the unit that found the place. He was a combat veteran but he once said to me of all the torments his mind kept reminding him of this was the most vivid. He never got over it.
Here’s the photo taken of him from a book. My Dad was a platoon commander. They have referred to him as a 2nd Lt. but he has 2 pips on his shoulder, and I know by then he was a 1st Lt. in the British Army. He was wounded 3 times in battle but remembered this horrific place the most. There were no inmate women that looked that well fed. He said they all looked like skeletons and had no hair as it was shorn off upon arrival, so I don’t know who she may be.
Rod Campbell.
