Robert McGowan RAMC
My Dad Robert McGowan front left in Belsen (R.A.M.C.)
My fathers name was Robert McGowan 1919-1965 his army number was 7361622 though there does not seem to be any trace of it so maybe wrong. He was in Belsen and though never spoke of it much I have snippets of stories he would tell after he had a few drinks about the horrors they witnessed like cannibalism among the prisoners as they were starving.
They would bury two at a time one under each arm also getting injections every day against the various diseases that were in the camp. We had some sad times when my Father would cry at the thought of what he had seen in this hell of a place.
He died in 1965 at the age of 45 from a disease he got in Belsen. R.I.P. to all the victims of this atrocity known and unknown.
